ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with the Danish conquest of Estonia and the conversion of Livonia by German missionaries in the late twelfth and early thirteenth centuries. It also presents the channels through which the crusading ideology spread on the eastern shore of the Baltic, as well as the vision of the papacy for the methodology of conversion under the impulse of the Crusades.
