Introduction

This chapter outlines the relevance of revisiting an analysis of the musical, Hair in the contemporary cultural moment. It explores recent events, most notably the Capitol insurrection of 2021, seeking to identify potential patterns between the contemporary era and the turbulent era of the sixties and, in doing so, justifies why a new, critical analysis of Hair is timely. The chapter outlines the methodology, highlighting that a non-linear approach is adopted throughout the book in order to re-position marginalised voices at the centre of the analysis allowing for an interrogation of moments that are often overlooked by existing work in this field.
