ABSTRACT

This chapter explores what it means to select resources that will encourage creative thinking. In recent years, there has been a return to thinking about the types of resources that are best for babies to allow them to develop at their own pace, with objects that incite their innate creativity and where they are free to explore and experience the world. Everyone, especially infants, learn through their senses. Engaging with items such as mirror balls, mason jar lids, and baskets provide opportunities for the whole child to be engaged in a holistic experience. Infants are learning about themselves as individuals, their bodies and how the world works through multifaceted interactions. It is important to provide a range of quality resources that also allow the babies in the room to fully explore their schematic patterns of play. Treasure baskets are now seen as part and parcel of a baby room.
