ABSTRACT

This chapter provides some great ideas and invitations to develop creativity for the youngest children in our childcare settings. Babies will begin to understand simple concepts through unhurried time exploring experiences and will develop their self-esteem, confidence and problem-solving skills. The current early years framework in the UK, the early years foundation stage (EYFS) consists of guidance that defines the minimum standard for early years settings in order to promote the underpinning principles of the EYFS. The statutory guidance outlines what providers must do under two key sections: welfare requirements and learning and development requirements. This statutory element of the EYFS is supported by a second, nonstatutory set of guidance, known as development matters, that was developed to help and support practitioners as they deliver these outcomes and implement the statutory guidance. The development matters document outlines the seven areas of learning, which have been separated into two distinct groups: prime and specific areas.
