Specifically, the chapter centers on fathers’ role in young children’s literacy development and learning, factors and challenges that shape fathers’ engagement in family literacy programs, and programs and initiatives that have successfully included fathers. The chapter concludes with recommendations for recruiting fathers to family literacy programs, tailoring programs to fathers’ needs, and reflecting on how gender shapes programming.
