ABSTRACT

Trauma events are therefore an extreme type of life event which inherently involves danger to life. However, it can also include witnessing such dangerous events or indeed learning of them from a close relative or friend and experiencing them second hand. It also includes experiences of emergency services who witness such trauma in their professional capacity. Entrapment has also been identified as a feature of trauma events which can lead to a shutdown in physiological systems when escape is impossible. Entrapping trauma events are also strongly related to suicidal behaviour in those with PTSD. The research on trauma implies that for many individuals, traumatic events occur within a context of other negative experiences such as ongoing deprivation or substance abuse. The Comprehensive resource model is a holistic therapeutic approach to help clients re-process and release the effects of traumatic events which they have experienced with a biological focus.
