ABSTRACT

All Fresnels and most open face lights have a few common elements used to control them. Barndoors are one of these; they come in both two-leaf and four-leaf versions. In most cases they fit into ears that are part of the front of the light. Scrims are another form of control: they reduce the total amount of light without altering the quality of light. In most commercially available cookies, the pattern is soft-edged and random, but many times a specific shape is needed and it is possible make one on the set with foamcore, which is easily cut. Gobo usually refers to a hard metal matt that goes inside a leko or other focusing light to create a well-defined and specific pattern. Gobo are available in a wide range of patterns: windows, trees, the moon, stars, leaves, and so on. Most LED units of motion picture lighting also have controls for color, from the simplest bi-color controls.
