ABSTRACT

As with the rest of the lifecycle events, the disposition should have a defined and repeatable process with specific steps, roles, and templates. The first applications identified for disposition are often those that have been in place for a long time and are no longer in use, or the information technology (IT) department was unaware of and is no longer in place. For most organizations, the repeatable disposition process is defined and put into place at the same time the first application is identified to be disposed. Using a vendor disposition template to document the detailed plan and obtain agreement from the organization and vendor would provide a clear communication on expectations for both parties. The vendor would be asked to document the final disposition of the data. The updated and final disposition plan should be discussed with the IT leadership for approval.
