ABSTRACT

The Yongning Guard was established in Quanzhou, in Hongwu 20. It was an important guard along the southeast coast of the Ming dynasty, which exemplified the main characteristics of coastal guards in the Ming. The center left guard under the jurisdiction of Yongning guards was actually the predecessor of today’s Xiamen region, which played an important role in coastal defense and local development in the Ming. The existing remains of the guard are essential relics for studying the garrison system in the Ming dynasty, so we should strongly protect it.
