ABSTRACT
Nationalism, the ideological expression of the nation-state, is the most powerful political idea of the past two centuries. As such, it has had an enormous impact on the modern world. The terms nation and state are often confused. Nation is a sociological term referring to a group of people who have a sense of union with one another. State is a political term that includes four elements: people, territory, government, and sovereignty.
