ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the main questions related to the comprehension of money as a social institution. It discusses the most controversial issues associated with what money is, how it works, and the fundamental characteristics of the structure of money governance. The chapter invites readers to rethink a different paradigm of money and takes into account the particular constraints that enable money to function in a dynamic way in contemporary societies.

It discusses the intellectual motivation behind this book and the main features of a new conception of money. The analytical framework that underlies this conception is elaborated prior to outlining the key components in the final chapter of this book.
