ABSTRACT

Entering the 21st century, China’s socialist modernization drive has come into a new stage and reached a new historical starting point. Social structure is the pattern of composition and relationship of the members of a society or a region who possess certain resources and opportunities. It is the theoretical abstraction of a complex social reality. When the economy develops to a new stage and the contradictory phenomenon of good news in the economic sphere and bad news in the social sphere emerges, it becomes necessary to simultaneously use social theories and methods to observe and analyze problems and to adopt social policies. After making a preliminary summary of the research on the relations of social strata, the research group decided to shift the focus of the investigation to the study of changes of social structure in contemporary China. Although China’s social structure has undergone profound changes, it is a social structure of the primary stage of industry societies.
