ABSTRACT
This chapter tries to challenge the widespread criticism that Srinivas was a functionalist and neglected Max Weber’s ideas. It shows: (1) how Srinivas, after his return from Oxford, worked and led his students to work on social change, without sacrificing the significance of functionalism; and (2) how he encouraged teaching of Weber’s works in Baroda and Delhi Universities and how he was associated with debates on Weber.
