ABSTRACT
This chapter traces the chequered career of Srinivas’s influential concept of Sanskritisation from its initial formulation in his 1952 book on the Coorgs to its revisions in later papers. The chapter then discusses its relation with caste, especially the Dalit castes and tribes, and with new agents of Sanskritisation. Finally, the chapter shows its continuing relevance today.
