ABSTRACT

What knowledge will carry young and older learners through the present storms of disruption to a place where work is redefined in a time that robots will increasingly create the wealth and governance to run a healthy society?

Artificial intelligence holds, as with practically all human activities, the promise of driving for example an agricultural revolution, a military revolution, and revolution in criminal activity. Due to massive changes in traditional employment the situation in Australia, for example, will be largely typical of how other economies will be affected by the introduction of AI. Credible predictions indicate that more than 5 million Australian jobs will simply disappear in the next 15 years as a result of technology. That’s 40 percent of the jobs that exist in Australia today.

We discuss employment that has disappeared, employment that will disappear, and employment that will be retained, as well as essential applied skills for 21st-century AI-HI living and working. Price Waterhouse estimates that 44 percent of jobs will become fully automated in just two decades. Hundreds of thousands of jobs are going to disappear forever with huge economic repercussions.

In common with all the sections in the book is the provision of enrichment material and ideas, link pathways, and further reading-viewing suggestions.
