ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the autonomy-security trade-offs inherent to Western military cooperation. The first section addresses actual warfare and other military operations, covering political cooperation, strategic and operational cooperation, and tactical cooperation. The second section reviews the strategies, economics, and politics of military basing. The third section dives into the detail of military equipment cooperation, covering research and development, procurement and production, and exports and imports. The final section concentrates on educational cooperation, putting a special emphasis not only on standardization and socialization but also on military academies and professional exchanges.
