ABSTRACT

Film professionals don’t want someone around who ignores safety and puts everyone in danger; producers know that it puts them in legal liability. Fire is handled by the props department. They can set up fireplaces, barbecues and other types of basic fire. For campfires, they generally use propane with hidden feed lines and some type of burner that can be concealed in the logs. Why not just burn logs? Continuity. The size of the fire would constantly be changing as one cut from shot to shot. Of course, they always have several fire extinguishers close by. Pyro means anything explosive, from large explosions down to squibs, which are the small charges attached to an actor or object to simulate a bullet hit. Anything pyro absolutely must be handled by a licensed pyrotechnician. Cranes, especially ones that the camera operator and assistant ride on, must only be operated by qualified grips.
