ABSTRACT

Each child, listening with her own unique intellectual and emotional equipment, formed her own mental picture, which was different from every other child’s and different from her teacher’s; and from that private and personal image she painted. The task of the English teacher is not unlike that of the Art teacher, for both are concerned with creative processes, and both discover repeatedly that in their most talented pupils the ability to create and the ability to appreciate the creations of others are closely allied functions. The teachers undertook to record lessons and set short pieces of written work immediately afterwards to the classes concerned. Good teachers always admit this to themselves and recognise that when a whole set of scripts is poor in quality the topic suggested has been somehow inappropriate or the preliminary teaching has been inadequate. The teachers undertook to record lessons and set short pieces of written work immediately afterwards to the classes concerned.
