ABSTRACT

The United States faces a new era of crime and criminal justice. There is an incalculable number of firearms in the United States, some of which are used in the commission of crimes, including mass shootings. Problems plaguing the criminal justice system became magnified during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the police killings of blacks. All these developments put even more pressure on officials to consider a fresh, comprehensive approach to the crime problem. Will criminologists step up to meet the current challenges?
