ABSTRACT

Augmentative is a word familiar with in special schools when consider one of the biggest keys to learning – communication. Augmentative and Alternative Communication includes simple systems such as pictures, eye movement, gestures, sign language as well as technology. To augment communication means to modify or enhance it. Augmented reality (AR) caters for visual learners with life-like images so that students can gain understanding on something abstract. They can view the object from different angles to gain perspective. AR apps have been used in school where the digital object is projected onto the classroom surface. These show up on the school iPad’s display using the AR software providing a hands-on practical experience. AR favours ubiquitous computing where computing is made to appear anytime and everywhere in any format. Using smartglasses students will be given super powers and be able to have several computer screens in front of them at one time.
