ABSTRACT

This chapter explores avenues for the healthcare workforce to apply competencies, and the responsibility that both academia and healthcare organizations have in this endeavor. The Fourth Aim is examined as an interesting concept that shines light on the connection between meeting the Triple Aim through acknowledgement of the role of the workforce. Job engagement, satisfaction, and job crafting are covered as key components of healthcare workforce sustainability. The healthcare workforce is such an essential asset to our healthcare reform objective that more attention has to be paid to this resource. The chapter concludes with an invitation to keep the conversation about the healthcare workforce in transition alive, with healthcare competencies as a coalescing beacon.
