ABSTRACT
This chapter relates to the expansion of the Gorkha state with that of consolidation of Gorkha ethnic identity from a variety of castes and tribes. It examines the social scene of Nepal in the medieval period, the history behind Greater Nepal, the emergence of the Gorkharajya, and issues pertaining to Gorkha identity.
