ABSTRACT

This chapter on the Federation of the Himalayan Kingdoms is an interesting exposure to the acts of King Mahendra and his co-hearts to rope in Palden Thondup Namgyal, still the Crown Prince of Sikkim, and his cousin, Jigmie Dorji, the Prime Minister of Bhutan and beyond. The chapter further informs how the grand design of the Himalayan Federation floundered by 1972 only to be substituted by Nepal with canvassing for Nepal as a Zone of Peace (ZOP), unceremoniously abandoned after the 1990 Janaandolan.
