ABSTRACT
The empirical data presented in Chapter 4 showed a clear distinction between domestic versus foreign news reportage by Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB). Multimodal critical discourse analysis (MCDA) was used to carry out an in-depth visual and textual analysis of foreign news coverage in Chapter 5. This chapter focuses on the administration of MCDA to two domestic news packages to determine how international human rights principles have been utilized by IRIB and if there are any hidden ideologies such as hegemony and power relations. The first news package discussed in this chapter is regarding Iran’s judiciary press conference on various issues and the second is regarding Iran’s Supreme Leader’s clemency or commutation of punishments of criminals.
