ABSTRACT

The hybrid nature of the political system in Iran produces dichotomies and ambiguities in the regime’s policies and regulations, which began with Khomeini’s ideology. This concluding chapter triangulates the results of the empirical data obtained from the analysis of Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting’s (IRIB) news programs, which found a dichotomy in reportage of foreign versus domestic news and the results from the analysis of interviews and surveys of recent Iranian migrants, which found a general disdain for IRIB and contradiction of responses with what the news portrays. This contradiction, however, was not due to the participants’ knowledge of human rights principles. The lack of knowledge of human rights is greatly attributed to Iran’s failure to comply with its obligation to promote human rights principles.
