ABSTRACT

The quantitative study reported in this chapter explored students’ experiences with the benefits of pursuing higher education. The analysis of 809 responses of students from 38 institutions across Vietnam to an online survey suggested that in their experience, their institutions focused much on developing students for their future work life but less on personal growth and social engagement aspects. Also, they reported that their institutions strongly contributed to the development of their scientific insights and professionalism as well as personal and inter-personal growth but moderately added to their social engagement capabilities. The study further indicated that the experiences varied between groups of students with different genders, institutional types, disciplines, and geographic regions. This chapter interprets and explains the findings with reference to the current context of the higher education system and socio-cultural aspects of the country.
