ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the first step in Stage 4 of the research process: testing the comprehensive model of creative problem solving proposed in Chapter 6. It presents results of the final outer and inner model structures of the Cute Numbers path models of creative problem solving using the jackknife procedure in the computer program PLSPATH (Sellin, 1989, 1990), which identified influential paths from within the Person, Environment, Process and Product dimensions of creativity. This information enabled the construction of the Creativity Intersection. Particular attention is paid to identifying the direct and indirect effects of cognitive and non-cognitive elements in the creative problem-solving process. The mean communality found for each of the outer and inner path models indicated that the overall model was strong enough to stand up to refinement using maximum likelihood (ML) multi-group modelling with AMOS (step 2 of Stage 4, described in Chapter 9) and was adequate to answer the research questions.
