ABSTRACT
Chapter 1 explains the diverse definitions of air power, the four roles of air power, its purposes and functions, and any relevant supporting terms. This chapter also explains the meaning of fighting power. The conceptual component, the military capabilities, and morale are explained. The organisational aspect of single-service, joint and inter-domain use of air power is also addressed here. This chapter explains the definition of space power, the role of air forces as custodians of the space environment, and recent trends in the development of space power. The questions of ownership of air power, independent air forces, and the new space force are also discussed in this chapter.
