ABSTRACT

Chapter 8 shows the structural and organisational trends in national air forces in the framework of the mass versus quality approach. The chapter is divided into three parts. The first part investigates trends in the structuring and development of the air forces of global powers like the USA, Russia, and China. The second part identifies the strategic objectives of medium-sized countries in Europe and the correspondence of their national air forces to these objectives. The examples of the UK and France are given. Finally, the last section addresses the case study of Sweden, as a neutral state that wants to develop functional interoperability with NATO to strengthen collaboration with the alliance.
