ABSTRACT

In this concluding chapter, we’ll examine four key recommendations, which synthesize important points we’ve explored together throughout this book and are designed to help you put its ideas into action:

Talk to students about the benefits and features of culturally relevant instruction.

Discuss what classroom-appropriate examples are.

Model your own relevant connections.

Provide a clear academic focus while allowing for student ownership.

Each of these recommendations describes an important teaching tactic to utilize as you implement culturally relevant teaching practices in your instruction. By employing each of these tactics, you’ll create the framework necessary for effective culturally relevant teaching. Now, let’s look at each of these recommendations individually.
