ABSTRACT

This chapter explores underlying theological ideas in Iglesia Evangelica Luterana de Bolivia (IELB) and Mision Alianza de Noruega en Bolivia (MAN-B), explicitly or implicitly disclosed in formal documents and interviews on leadership level and performed in weekly devotions. Theological interpretations are embedded in local religious and cultural systems but are also situated in between national and international actors and theological currents. Two established Latin American theological discourses, ecumenical liberation theology and evangelical teaching on integral mission, are helpful to understand how IELB and MAN-B frame their work as faith-based. IELB and MAN-B presented the mission of the Church as working for God’s mission and the realisation of the Kingdom of God. In the theological discourses expressed at a formal level in MAN-B and IELB the mission of the Church is understood as twofold, as proclamation of the Gospel and service to the ‘poor'.
