ABSTRACT
This chapter offers a comprehensive approach to violence among diverse sets of communities that challenges the fixed and frozen notions of community identities that hinge on the paradigm of the nation. It also establishes how the contours of violence among minorities invariably positions Muslims as more vulnerable subjects of violent conflicts in contemporary India. It outlines two inter-related layers of Muslim experience of violence that emerge in this work: (1) violence as a community experience and (2) violence as a spatial experience.
