ABSTRACT

The diagnostic category of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has undergone multiple revisions in both the DSM and the ICD nomenclatures, and in general, PTSD has become an increasingly expansive diagnostic category. Along with the still expanding stressor conditions qualifying for the diagnosis, there have been corresponding progressions of claims for compensation. Disability compensation claims involve enormous sums of money and related challenges for private and public resources evaluating the validity of the claims and providing monetary compensation. These developments have led to an escalating need in the forensic realm to assist with ferreting out legitimate claims from those that are falsified or malingered.
