ABSTRACT

For the reader with a primary interest in forensic work, this chapter may be initially viewed as ill-suited. The authors are sensitive to any initial reader hesitation, but nevertheless regard this chapter as foundational and as a vital aspect of the next several chapters documenting the evolutionary progression of deceptive behavior in humans. Deceptive behavior occurs in the animal kingdom and chronicles the development of deception through human development, where it wends its way into sophisticated human forensic matters.
