ABSTRACT

The Internet has become ubiquitous in the lives of most people around the world, and this is especially true of young people who have unlimited access to information. What was once only accessible with a laptop computer, slow modem, and telephone line is now accessible from almost anywhere in the world on a device that fits in the palm of your hand. This chapter provides an overview of topics related to adolescents and their consumption of sexually explicit Internet material (SEIM) and provides context for understanding the chapters that follow. The prevalence of Internet and SEIM consumption is discussed, important terms are defined and explained, and the structure and intentionality of the text is described.
