ABSTRACT

For the majority of second-hand ship sale transactions, there will be an underwater inspection of the ship (commonly referred to as a “diver's inspection”) shortly before delivery. In most cases, the buyer will have already inspected the ship. The underwater inspection is not a repeat of the buyer’s inspection which, typically, will have been a superficial inspection of the ship by the buyer’s own technical representatives. Rather, the underwater inspection regime is concerned with an inspection of the ship’s underwater parts below the deepest load line to determine if they are subject to any breakage, damage or defect which affects the ship’s class
