ABSTRACT
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the development of complex and often extraterritorial sanctions regimes affecting international trade and the shipping industry. As a result, provisions relating to sanctions are now routinely included in business contracts. As part of its suite of standard clauses, BIMCO has developed a standard sanctions clause and this, in adapted form, has been incorporated into Shipsale 22.
Detailed commentary on sanctions regimes is beyond the scope of this book but some observations on the provisions of clause 21 of Shipsale 22 are included below.
