ABSTRACT
In most cases, the sale of a second-hand ship will be a private transaction. Neither the seller nor the buyer will wish the world to know that they have made an agreement for the sale and purchase of the ship and, crucially, the purchase price that has been agreed. On the other hand, there is a general recognition that keeping a ship sale secret from the market is often a difficult, if not impossible task.
