ABSTRACT

In most cases, a prospective buyer will not be familiar with the ship being offered for sale and will commence negotiations based on information about the ship which has been provided by the seller (directly or through broking channels). Although such information may be a useful starting point for the buyer, it is unlikely to be sufficient for the buyer properly to assess whether the ship will be fit for its needs. For this reason, it is usual for the buyer to inspect the ship and its classification records before the buyer commits to purchasing the ship.
