ABSTRACT

This chapter provides introduction to the key concepts discussed in part 3 of this book. The part examines a few of the other impacts of digital transformation for the publishing industry. It introduces some of the main activities and considerations under each theme. Some of these issues cross over the different publishing sectors: concepts of copyright have transitioned in a digital environment and technology solutions are in place to help combat piracy across all publishing areas. Digital and social media marketing, for instance, impacts all sectors, though there is some focus on the consumer market. The brisk rate of change in the business environment for digital publishing led to some unusual events that were, in the context of traditional publishing, quite dramatic. The part aims to give a flavour of the different ways in which digital technology is having an impact on the industry and the sorts of debates that it gives rise to.
