ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters. The part looks at developments in technology that led to digital production and new workflows and data structure that forms the basic building blocks of any digital product. It also looks at web development and the implications for digital content Information architecture and content management for digital products, and the development and growth of e-readers and ebooks. The part explains the evolution of some of the main technologies that are key to the creation and distribution of digital products today, showing how this history has influenced the way these products work. It provides some of the current technological developments that may well be key to newer digital products, as well as drivers for the industry and its structure for the future.
