ABSTRACT

The next part of Ea’s message is XI 45. This line is badly broken, and only two words survive: mešrâ ‘riches’ and ebūram-ma ‘harvest’ – or, if taken as adverbial accusative, ‘at harvest time’. It is uncertain whether the lacuna contained further nouns, making the line an apposition or extension of the previous, or a verb, 802 making it syntactically complete. Definitive analysis of puns in the line must of course await complete recovery of the line’s wording. However, a latent negative sense can be envisaged even in the small portion currently extant.
