ABSTRACT

So far we have discussed methodology. Now it is time for context. For, though it is the most elaborate one identified to date, Ea’s bitextual message is far from being the only pun in the Gilgameš Flood story, let alone in Gilgameš as a whole. Before embarking on our analysis of the message and its implications, therefore, we will here review other examples of puns in Gilgameš, so that Ea’s message can be considered in the light of them.
