ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the philosophy and some of the organizations crafting the elements of Youth and Police Studies. The subdiscipline of Youth and Police Studies places academics, practitioners, policymakers, parents, police, and youth as invested individuals presenting their perspectives, issues of concern, and social historical background, as the space of each is important to understand the intersection when youth and police interact. Elements previously discussed, including reduced social distance, Policing by TOTALS, and 21st Century Policing, synergize to make principles of study to foster further development of the discipline.
