ABSTRACT

In management and organization studies, it has become widely accepted that tokens – for instance, knowledge in the form of new ideas, practices, scientific developments and technologies – are not stable. Translation studies have moreover been characterized by different theories, which have created confusion and some ambiguity about the meaning and content of the concept of translation as well as of the nature of the translation process. Several organizational researchers theorize, model and analyze organizational change processes as translation. However, many of them define the concept of translation and theorize or model the translation process differently. In 2016 a special issue in the International Journal of Management Review provided the first updated overview over different perspectives in organizational translation studies, summed up research conducted until now and identified areas where further research was needed.
