ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the actor-network theory (ANT) and present and combine with other theories in order to build up a number of basic assumptions that together form a basis for a new ANT- and ventriloquist-inspired model that explains translator’s role in entity construction and organizational change as ideas move. In the latter case, the translators may voluntarily as well as involuntarily become a 'mouthpiece' for and a spokesman of specific humans but also distinct inherent characteristics of nonhumans that unexpectedly turn out to be relevant to the translation of an idea/token. Design work may thus be directed toward designing: Thus, according to Love the objects of designers' design work are humans and nonhumans which are also focused upon by ANT researchers studying translation processes. The introduction of any idea or token in an organization will thus always include some types of attempts of translators to influence the relations and interactions between humans, objects and contexts.
