ABSTRACT

In the final chapter we will look at the implications of our findings. We find that under the right conditions that, rather than being a social force that limits scientific inquiry, the religious nature of educational institutions can create novel approaches to academic questions. Conservative Protestant institutions of higher education do suffer from ideological bias, but the same can be said of other colleges and universities. Theological concerns drive their bias, whereas political concerns are more important on non-sectarian campuses. Such institutions are also situated to serve demographic populations (in this case highly religious Protestants) that may normally not hold academia in high esteem. We argue for the value of a diverse educational landscape that includes conservative Protestant institutions.
