ABSTRACT
Any musician has a tendency to fill up whatever room he is in but the opera singer is especially permeating. He just naturally acts at all times as if he were singing solo on a 200 foot stage. His gestures are large and simple: and he moves about a great deal, never looking at anybody else and never addressing a word to anybody privately, but always speaking to the whole room (Virgil Thompson quoted in Meyer 1986).
