ABSTRACT
Chapter 5 examines homelessness by charting how this issue has been addressed and explaining its wider significance for society. Governments’ reluctance to subsidise social housing has led to an increase in the rate of homelessness and has thus reinforced and further developed a major symptom of social inequality. I make references to Anglophone and other nation states in order to draw out the key differences and commonality of experiences.
