ABSTRACT
The problems of urban congestion and sprawl that are a feature of most major cities are, in part, attributable to the way that we build and plan our suburban neighbourhoods. Chapter 7 draws from the example of Australia and other nation states in order to demonstrate the impact of suburban housing on contemporary societies. In this chapter I examine the advantages and challenges that arise from suburban development and its long-term implications.
